The Symptom and Disease-Modifying Effects of Intra-Articular 2.5% Polyacrylamide Gel in an Equine Preclinical Osteochondral Model.
Presented at ICRS – 18th World Congress, Boston, MA. 11-14th October 2025.
Background and Purpose:
Use of polyacrylamide hydrogels (PAAG), including 2.5% iPAAG to treat osteoarthritis (OA) in humans and horses is increasing.
Exact mechanism of action unknown; incorporates into synovial lining and may increase joint capsule elasticity. Clinical efficacy demonstrated in horses in multiple clinical trials but no experimental studies in horses. Study aimed to evaluate symptom- and disease-modifying effects of 2.5% iPAAG in an equine carpal OA model.
